What actually differs
beehiiv: growth + monetization stack
Website and newsletter in one product — no separate site to maintain.
Built-in recommendation network and boosts to grow from other newsletters.
Ad network and paid subscriptions on paid plans, with a 0% platform fee on paid subscriptions (payment processor fees still apply).
Pricing is tiered by subscriber count and jumps at fixed thresholds (2,500 / 5,000 / 10,000 …).
Kit: email automation for sellers
Email-first. Visual automations and sequences are the core strength.
Built for creators who sell products, courses and paid content to an existing audience; commerce fee of 3.5% + 30¢ per sale applies.
Generous free plan (10,000 subscribers), but automations are limited until you move to a paid plan.
Pro adds advanced analytics, engagement scoring and a newsletter referral system.
Who should NOT pick each
Don't pick beehiiv if your main job is complex email automation for product launches — that is Kit's home turf.
Don't pick Kit if you need a built-in website plus a growth network from day one — you would have to bolt those on yourself.
Can I switch later? Yes. Subscriber lists can be exported from both platforms. Automations, sequences and templates do not transfer 1:1, so switching costs rise the longer you wait.
Can I use both? Some creators run beehiiv for the public newsletter and Kit for product email. It doubles cost and maintenance, so it only makes sense at real scale.
Which is cheaper? At 1,000 subscribers Kit Creator costs less per month. The deciding factor is usually not the entry price — it is whether you need beehiiv's website/growth stack or Kit's automations as you grow toward 10,000 subscribers, where the two are priced closely.
